Dave has been making music with bands & artists for over 20 years. As well as production, mixing & engineering, he is also an in-demand session drummer who plays both live and in studio with a wide range of artists in the UK, Europe & USA.
In our studio he has produced and played on records with people such as John Witherspoon, Simon Dale, & St Catherine's Child to name just a few. As well as all things rhythmic he also contributes keys and backing vocals as part of our in-house session band & production team.
Dave is incredibly passionate about records being deeply musical , fun to make and fully focused around the emotional core of what the artist needs to say. Whether it's through production, mixing or playing, Dave is always finding ways to help people express themselves and their art.
Joe Smithson
Producer | Writer | Musician
Joe is one of the most in demand writers and musicians in the UK. He has written as a solo artist, with bands and as a co-writer for over two decades, having his work featured on Radio 1 & 2, Made In Chelsea, Hollyoaks & Coronation Street.
After graduating LIPA in 2014 he has built a career & reputation as a hugely talented multi instrumentalist session musician, producer & arranger. He has one of the best ears for melody and hooks we've ever heard, is a fun, supportive presence in our studio and effortlessly gets the best out of people and their creativity.
As a guitarist, singer, bassist, keys player or anything else he turns his hand to, he is an invaluable part of our production and session musician team here at Prodigal Son.
In-House Session Band
When it comes to making records, we know that the best writing, arranging and production in the world won't mean a thing if there aren't a talented bunch of musicians to play it.
Many people who work with us have those talented folks to bring in with them, others are flying solo and need players to properly execute their creative vision, that's where our in-house session band comes in. With over a decade of time spent together in the studio and on the road, we can offer a highly talented, professional and supportive team of musicians that can bring your music to life - whether you just need stellar musicians to play your songs or help with arranging & writing along the way, our guys have got you covered.
We specialise in fully live band tracking at Prodigal Son, believing that a huge amount of the music we love sounds the way it does because of the people making it in the room together. The feel, the glue, the happy accidents and musicality that comes from performing as a group means a lot to us and is something we'd love to offer you if it suits the thing you'd like to make.
In-House Production Duo
Making music is expensive. Being an artist is rarely financially lucrative, especially at the start of your career. We understand that first-hand here and firmly believe in music above money. We also believe in helping people make their music whatever their situation. Producers, engineers, session musicians and mixing engineers all cost money to hire, so we want to offer that to you in one small but efficient package - our in house production duo, Dave & Joe.
You've read all about what they do further up this page, we don't need to sell you on them any more than that, but as a team they offer a package that can give you a phenomenal sounding and performed record top to bottom for a budget friendly price.
Between the two of them they've got just about every instrument covered, are both accomplished producers and engineers, offer high quality mix work and can help with any writing and arranging you might need, all for a single, artist friendly packaged price.
Think of it as an all-inclusive holiday to the studio - with less cheesy evening entertainment. Some, but less.
